10 Tips for Healthy Skin Care

Healthy Skin Care TipsEveryone wants healthy skin and women, especially, want vibrant, beautiful skin.  Some lucky women have this naturally and easily, but most have to work at it.  The good news is that no matter what kind of skin you have, caring for it to keep it beautiful is not difficult and does not have to be time consuming.

Here are ten things you can do to ensure that you always have great-looking skin.

A Good Diet is the First Step

Drinking plenty of water, eating a lot of healthy, green vegetables, and otherwise staying away from unhealthy, sugary, and over-processed foods is the number one way to promote younger, healthier skin.

Use a Good Cleanser Often

This is especially true for your face and neck.  Using a facial cleanser without soap will remove dirt and excess oils from your skin, but will leave your skin's natural protection in place.  This helps keep your skin hydrated and soft.  Use a cleanser formulated for your skin type.

Moisturize Your Skin at Least Once a Day

Using a daily moisturizer can help your skin radiate healthiness by keeping it from becoming dehydrated.  Using a moisturizer immediately after getting out of the bath or shower is often the best option, as your skin will be hydrated from the high humidity in the bathroom.

Clean Your Makeup Completely Off Before Bed

Remove all of your makeup before bed.  Every trace of it.  Many women make the mistake of moisturizing or putting a lot of skin care products on before going to sleep.  This is generally a bad idea.  It not only makes your pillows dirty, but it prevents your skin from "breathing," which is essential to the natural process of removing oils and self-healing.

Do Not Pop Your Acne Blemishes

The act of "popping zits" actually makes them more of a problem.  It allows the infection to spread to other pores, leaves the freshly-popped pore open for new invasions, and often bruises the skin around the blemish during the popping process.  Instead, use an exfoliating sponge and a pimple cream.  Use only one product to treat the pimples, as more than one can cause irritation.

Use Sunscreen and UV-Protecting Products

Even in the winter time, over-exposure to the sun can cause your skin to become burnt or damaged.  Use sunscreen or makeup and other covering products that supply UV protection.

Chocolate is Heaven, Except for Your Skin

Stay away from refined sugars, such as those found in popular chocolate products.  Cacao (natural chocolate) is not a problem, of course, but most of the chocolate you purchase at the store has refined sugars.  These cause several skin problems, not the least of which is dehydration.  An occasional chocolate is fine, but daily consumption is not good.

Exfoliate Once a Week

It's possible to exfoliate (scrub dead skin) your face too often and most women do it more than they should.  About once a week is usually adequate, though your dermatologist may have another recommendation for your specific needs.  This scrubbing promotes healthy, soft skin.

Drink Plenty of Water

Flush your system out by drinking plenty of water.  This helps remove toxins, impurities, and problem-causers that your body wants to get rid of, but needs the facility to do so (water).  This promotes overall general health and goes a long way towards giving you beautiful skin.

Moderation, Moderation, Moderation

Whatever you do, there is no single cure, magic pill, or one-solution snake oil that will give you instantly radiant skin.  Everything you do to make your skin healthy should be done in moderation.  This is true of cleansing, face masks, exfoliating, etc.

Hopefully these ten tips will show you that a simple process, without a lot of expensive products, can go a long way towards giving you the healthy, radiant, beautiful skin you deserve.
