Natural Home Remedies for Chicken Pox Skin Blemishes

Most children get the chicken pox before the age of 10. Several causes usually work together in a sympathetic or symbiotic way to cause a child to get chicken pox. The disease is homeopathic in nature, so there really is no cure. The unsightly blemishes that are the primary symptom of chicken pox can leave light scars, however, and this can be prevented or cured.

Children get the chicken pox after being exposed to the virus during a time when their immunity is compromised (usually due to bad nutrition, especially too much sugar) or after having recently been ill from another infection.

The red spots will appear soon after the pox. They look similar to acne bumps and usually appear all over the body, concentrated on the trunk. They can often itch and scratching them should be avoided as this is what causes most of the scarring associated with these spots.

Two simple bathwater remedies can be used to lessen the itchiness and effects of the chicken pox marks while infected. A bath seeped in Margosa leaves (a handful for the full tub) can be used. Apple cider vinegar mixed with the bath water (about half a cup) can also help. In both cases, have the child soak in the tub for 15-20 minutes. This relieves the dry and itchy feeling associated with the pox.

Oatmeal baths are another remedy. Put two or three cups of oatmeal into a cloth bag and immerse it in a large pot or bucket of water. When the water (2-3 gallons is best) becomes turbid with the oatmeal throughout, add it to a bath and soak in it. This, by the way, is a common skin care remedy for a lot of uses, including a weekly skin revitalize for younger-looking skin.

Yet another remedy is to boil peas in a pot. Sieve the water into another container (use the peas for dinner) and dip a cloth into the water and wipe that over the affected skin. This temporarily relieves the itchiness of the chicken pox and adds Vitamin E to help the skin heal. This can also be done, less effectively, with a solution of baking soda and water.

Once the chicken pox begin to disappear and the scabs begin forming, act quickly to avoid scarring. Aloe vera juice or pulp should be rubbed over the spots. Carrot soup is another good idea, slicing the carrots very thinly (or shredding) and making a soup out of them. It's tasty with cheddar cheese or chicken and gives several vital nutrients that healing skin requires.

There are many home remedies for chicken pox, but most of the “cures” are not really cures at all, just fixes for the symptoms. Chicken pox is something that all of us have to go through as children and we usually come out of it healthier for it.

Treating the scars, lessening the symptoms, and keeping good nutrition are the key to getting through the event without trauma.
