The Dreaded Black Eye Circles and How to Cope With Them Naturally

Everyone, no matter their age, eventually will have black circles under their eyes. They look horrible and give us the appearance of sickness and age. Luckily, unless you got your black eye in a boxing match, they can be easily cured and very quickly with simple, home methods that are natural and organic.

The skin around our eyes, especially underneath in the half-moon under our eyeballs, is very thin and delicate. More than almost any other part of our skin, this area requires healthy collagen and elastin to stay young-looking and of proper color. With age, malnutrition, fatigue, and other factors, it becomes darker, shriveled, and dull-appearing. The ancients used to consider a person's eyes and the skin around them as a first indicator of ill-health.
If yours are due to fatigue, then your best remedy is to get some sleep. Sleep as long as your body wants you to, not for a fixed amount of time with an alarm clock at the end. Sometimes we need more sleep than we think and eight hours might not cover it. Nearly every time, if you have dark circles around your eyes, sleeping until you are no longer tired will cure them.
Your circles might be due to age or bad nutrition, however. In that case, there are several ways to remedy the problem without spending a fortune on spa treatments and special salves.
First, make sure your diet has plenty of leafy vegetables, Vitamin A, E, and is otherwise nutritionally complete and healthy. Avoid things that dehydrate you like soda pop and sugary food and drink. Skip diuretics like coffee too.
You can also make a cream from turmeric powder (a pinch), gram flour (finely ground), and a teaspoon of tomato juice and of lemon juice. Mix the two juices together and then ad the dry ingredients until a thin paste or cream is formed. Rub this gently underneath your eyes and around your crow's feet, making sure not to get any into your eyes. The tomato and lemon will sting, but it won't hurt your eyes if you rinse it out immediately. Leave it for ten minutes, then rinse with warm water and wipe with a clean cloth. Do this twice daily and the circles should be gone within two days.
Sliced potato or cucumber are common remedies that you can also try. Slice them thick and place over your eyes as you nap, meditate, or listen to the radio. Do it for as long as you can – fifteen minutes to half an hour at minimum. Wipe your eyes with a damp cloth. Grated cucumber is another option for this.
For a daily routine to avoid getting dark eye circles, try making a mixture of pineapple juice and turmeric powder (or use the above recipe with turmeric, gram, and juices) into a crèam. Massage into the skin around your eyes carefully. Leave this for about ten minutes, then rinse. Do this nightly.
All of these are great, natural ways to get rid of the dark circles we all sometimes get underneath our eyes. Do you have a favorite remedy? Share it with us in the comments below!
